An Awfully Right Thing to Do

I read and re-read for more meaning.
Does each letter gather for some word?
A long lost relative who never mattered?
Excuse me while I grunt to be heard.

Did a crowd get together?
Question my head and my heart?
And come up with the weather?
A pain in the window from start.

Now look very closely.
Make sure it’s not just you.
Then go out and see how funny
the rain springs up like dew.

Oh I’ve been called a monster
coming out of the wood.
Or just plain letters
in space misunderstood.

But if you knew what I stood for:
an ER on the fly.
You’d find another speller
and hang me out to dry.
