My Audition

I am not a number
I am not in line
I am not a puncher
Nor do I ever pine

Instead, if I sign and blind you
with a certain sort of sway
I can still pick who knows who
somewhere along the way,

See that method actor?
That john doe donut on the way,
Chomping and smacking a fever.
Now butting and shouting Hey Hay!

But you’ll have to prove I’m libel.
I can hump on the spot,
Bumping along on a camel
Still drooling better than snot.

I act in no bitter way,
Rap my long line round a post,
Call up Mary. I’ll start to sway
The one I crowned the most.

What’s apropos at this stage?
Do I quack back after a swing?
Double up with a message?
I’m too well-rounded for this ring?

Let me do my flipflop.
I’m a standup out of line,
I’ll swoop up that old prop
and bellow Sweet Adeline!
