The Stage We’re In

First it was Universal:
action flicks in outer space.
All weirdos with sex-appeal.
Plus good guys pushing one race.

Then it was the particular:
Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd.
A wise guy proving he’s dumber
than a humbug cutting the rug.

As for cheaters and peak-a-boos
we’re now past freckles and skin.
Garters and straps on the outside
suggesting no clothing within.

If I were a director or actor
I’d make you return to the stage.
Or let A-I take over
creating the wonder of the age.

But it’s now the newest story.
Singing in heaven without sin.
And the actors are you in your glory
smiling and humping to win.
