Tell You What

Where did this poem come from?
Great minds young and old.
The vague dream and the bold.
A fugitive on the run.
A gift of water running dry.
Oddities mentioned to catch the eye.
Throwing horseshoes at what appears
to be all our hopes and tears
found in a garment called pants
which is breathing to enhance.
With just enough meaning to jump
from one subject to another.
Scanning the territory for a brother.
Making all of mankind your mother.

Take me seriously, you damn fool!
Grab one foot from a two-legged stool
and raise it on high to a toaster on wheels.
So when it pops up a cowbell peals
and a farmer comes out to strike up the band
causing co-lateral damage throughout the land!

Best I shut up before you discover
I’m troping about till I bang a lover.
And grow happily ever after
about words that don’t matter.
